Electric Vehicles for CRYOPDP’s Sustainable Operations in the UK
Committed to sustainable healthcare logistics and operations, CRYOPDP actively contributes to achieving Sustainable Development Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy. Our transition to electric vehicles (EVs) began at our Feltham office in October 2022, with a second deployment scheduled for February 2023. This initiative, facilitated by our partnership with Dawson Group Transport, signifies our dedication to sustainable operations and a greener future.
The transition’s scope encompasses a crucial aspect of our logistics, emphasizing the pivotal airport transfer route connecting CRYOPDP’s Feltham office with the vibrant streets of London.
This vital transportation corridor facilitates over 20 daily trips, spanning a considerable distance of 210 km (130.5 miles). By replacing our former diesel engine fleet with electric vehicles on this busy route, we aim to enhance energy efficiency and significantly reduce our overall carbon footprint. This comprehensive approach underscores our dedication to actively advocating and embracing sustainable practices. It aligns with the broader objectives of our sustainability strategy.
Through these concerted efforts, CRYOPDP aims to exemplify responsible corporate citizenship. We make tangible strides toward a more sustainable future in sustainable life sciences logistics.
The integration of Electric Vehicles (EVs) in life science logistics presents a myriad of benefits:
1. Environmental Impact:
Reduced Carbon Emissions: EVs produce lower or zero emissions compared to traditional fuel-powered vehicles, contributing to a significant reduction in the carbon footprint associated with life science logistics operations.
2. Lower Operating Costs:
EVs generally have lower maintenance and operating costs due to fewer moving parts and less frequent maintenance requirements, translating into potential cost savings for life science companies over the vehicle’s lifespan.
3. Regulatory Compliance:
As governments worldwide implement stricter emission standards, the use of EVs helps life science logistics companies comply with these regulations, avoiding potential fines and penalties associated with traditional combustion engine vehicles.
4. Energy Efficiency:
EVs convert a higher percentage of the electrical energy from the grid to power at the wheels, making them more energy-efficient than internal combustion engine vehicles. This efficiency can contribute to a more sustainable and responsible energy consumption for life science logistics.
5. Government Incentives:
Many governments provide financial incentives, tax credits, or subsidies to encourage the adoption of electric vehicles. Life science logistics companies can take advantage of these incentives, further improving the economic feasibility of transitioning to EVs.
6. Noise Reduction:
EVs operate more quietly than traditional vehicles, which can be advantageous in urban or residential areas. This reduction in noise pollution is particularly relevant for life science logistics operations in locations where minimizing disturbances is crucial.
7. Future-Proofing:
Incorporating Electric Vehicles into life science logistics operations is an environmentally responsible choice and a strategic decision that can positively impact operational efficiency, costs, and overall corporate reputation in the long run as a responsible company.
